Omega – Ending Isolation, Ending Loneliness Request

Omega – Ending Isolation, Ending Loneliness Request

Organisation Description

Omega was founded to support chronically lonely people who couldn’t access support groups or face to face befriending. We are the only charity to offer a range of remote befriending services to adults of all ages throughout the UK.

We work to end isolation and loneliness, with a network of referrers including the NHS and hospices, who can identify clients unable to access other services and maximise the impact of our programmes to limit public service burden.

We help clients stay connected and increase wellbeing. Our flagship, safeguarded programmes are Chatterbox telephone befriending and Letterbox penpal befriending.

What are they looking for?

The Omega Board is a small, well-established body with a range of professional expertise represented. To complement the existing membership, we are looking for somebody with professional or voluntary involvement in working with adults affected by social isolation, mental health concerns or related matters. A minimum expectation is to attend the Board which meets quarterly in Shrewsbury, usually during a weekday morning. Attendance in person is preferred although video links can be arranged. Trustees are also encouraged to engage further with the staff, volunteers or clients as their time permits. Alternatively, occasional assistance with tasks such as policy review, volunteer recruitment, fundraising or supporting social events is welcome. We are also seeking somebody with professional or voluntary involvement in fundraising for a third sector organisation. Engagement with the charity’s finance group, which meets quarterly between Board meetings, would be expected. Occasional active support for fundraising initiatives would be encouraged. We welcome applicants from diverse lived experiences. https://omega.uk.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Trustee-Role-Description.pdf
